Saks Hair & Beauty
Saks Hair & Beauty is the UK’s leading franchise hair salon brand. Featuring award winning salons on high streets and health clubs across the country. Being no stranger to utilising modern marketing techniques, the guys at Saks have wanted to own some kind of mobile based presence for some time. But have waited for app development costs (and ROI) to become affordable for individual salons.
When Sharon (franchise owner of the Saks in Cheam Surrey) heard about Appy Monkey, (and our Small Business App Service), she got in contact straight away. Within less than 2 weeks, the Saks app had been designed, developed and published to the Apple App Store & Google Play (for Android). And a bundle of promotional material had been created and installed in store…
The Objective
We were asked to provide a cutting edge App for Saks Hair and Beauty Salon in Cheam, Surrey, UK. This app was to be available for both iPhone and Android. It was decided that for a complete App with a full back end management panel and ready to go marketing material (see pricing page).
Preparation
After just one initial meeting, we were able to start work on the app immediately and deliver it (fully working) in a very short period of time (and at an extremely realistic price). Saks provided us with the information that they wanted on the app from their website and brochure/leaflets.
The app took approximately 2 weeks (10 working days) to be live on the Apple and Google App stores. This time would have been reduced BUT Apple take an average of 6 days to approve all Apps (Google is instant).
We did not stop with simply building an app. We also created fully optimised app listings on Apple and Google (including beautifully crafted marketing images and screenshots). A QR code (and a redirect web address) to easily distribute the app was provided. Plus – custom marketing materials, to help advertise the app in store. Including stickers (placed on all of their mirrors) and A4 point of sale signage.
We also provided a full control panel, with the ability to quickly and easily update any of the content, see usage statistics and send unlimited push notifications to the customer’s phones.
Unlike a website (where you’re required to write down or remember a web address and then wait until you’re in front of a computer to view it), we’re able to tell our customers about our app in store AND get them to download and install it there and then! We’re using it as our digital, highly interactive business card. I didn’t know what to expect if I’m totally honest as I’m not the most technical person in the world, but I simply love the app and so do all my customers. The control panel they provided is really simple to use and my entire team are extremely excited about promoting and using it.

The Results
Sharon usually spends between £300- £500 a month on SMS messages. But using push notifications to inform customers of offers has saved money right from day 1. Quiet days have now been reduced, as they can quickly and easily create a special offer for the day, and broadcast it to everyone that owns the app.
The Saks brand is now visibly in front of their customers every single day. Whenever they visit their phone’s home screen, the Sak logo is in front of them. Subconsciously they’re increasing brand awareness.
Also
The information regarding their products and services are conveniently available anytime. Customers are able to contact the salon with just a few taps of the screen. Bookings can be arranged from the convenience of the app. For those that have not visited the store before, GPS turn by turn navigation is built in. Cardboard loyalty coupons are a thing of the past. And with so many ways to interact and communicate with their customers, like Facebook, in app fan walls and push notifications, Saks are able to constantly keep everyone in the loop regarding offers, new services, events etc.
And finally – Providing such a modern way to interact with their customers has helped increase overall brand respect. Getting ahead of their competition and owning their very own slice of the mobile marketing future.
